Annual Report

Vascular Specialist International 2021 Report

Suh Min Kim1, Seung-Kee Min2 on behalf of the Vascular Specialist International Editors
1Department of Surgery, Chung-Ang University College of Medicine, Seoul, 2Division of Vascular Surgery, Department of Surgery, Seoul National University College of Medicine, Seoul, Korea

Greetings! To all Vascular Specialist International (VSI) readers, authors, and reviewers, we truly hope that every member is doing well and is in good health. We appreciate the authors and reviewers for their great contributions to VSI despite the barriers and restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. In this annual report, we review the accomplishments of the VSI journal in 2021 as we move forward as a premier journal in the field of vascular surgery.

1. WINNERS OF THE REVIEWER AWARDS FOR 2021

Every year, we select three outstanding reviewers who made substantial contributions to Vascular Specialist International. We recognize recent winners of the Reviewer Awards here.

2. NEW POLICIES

Beginning this year, we started a “one-by-one publication” scheme, wherein each article was published online as soon as it was accepted. For example, an article that was numbered as 37:19 indicates that this is the manuscript found in the 37th volume of VSI and the 19th published article of the year. Articles are not assigned page numbers anymore; thus, each publication should be cited with its digital object identifier (DOI). Below the abstract of each article, you can find the said information: “Cite this article; Vasc Specialist Int 2021. https://doi.org/10.5758/vsi.210039”

3. NOVEL WEBSITE HOMEPAGE

We revised the journal website homepage on April 6 this year. The previous interface was designed back in 2013 and was dedicated to ensuring easy access for authors and readers. However, young surgeons want a novel design that is creative and dynamic, and their preference for images and video content is increasing. Therefore, we redesigned the homepage to make it more interesting and enjoyable. Now, we can easily navigate through the website to find the current issues, VSI metrics, and informative video clips.

4. EDITOR WORKSHOPS

We have conducted two workshops for the editors in the past year. The main topic was “peer review.” Education programs and certifications for peer review will begin next year.
